History
Over the years, our family business has provided a wide range of vehicle services, from local taxi operations and Lakeland tours to premium chauffeur services across the UK.
M W Shepherd was established in the 1920s by Thomas Birckett Shepherd, who began with a taxi service in the Grange-over-Sands area. In the 1950s, Myles William Shepherd expanded the business into funeral services by acquiring our first Austin 16 hearse from a local provider, followed by a new Morris Oxford hearse coach built by Woodhall Nicholson.
From the 1970s, Brian Shepherd joined the company, offering professional procession vehicles and supporting funeral directors—a service that continues to this day.
Now in its fourth generation, the business is co-run by Matthew Shepherd alongside his father, Brian. As a Master Technician certified in both Jaguar and Volkswagen, Matthew is passionate about maintaining our fleet to the highest standards of appearance and reliability, ensuring consistently excellent service.
